Obama Unfazed by Constitution – Reason #65

Obama Unfazed by Constitution

In a 2008 article that otherwise appeared very defensive of the Obama campaign, ABC News at least provided the following glimpse into Presidential Candidate Obama’s thought process:

“The Missouri Truth Squad, an Obama campaign press release stated last week, would ‘respond quickly, forcefully, and aggressively when John McCain or his allies launch inaccurate claims or character attacks about Barack Obama, or when they distort Barack Obama’s record or plans.’”[i]

Members of this “Truth Squad,” included members with “law enforcement powers, such as St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, and Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer,” [ii] giving a very different tone to the campaign’s promise to respond to so called inaccuracies, “…quickly, forcefully, and aggressively.”

When the NRA-Political Victory Fund called into question, “Sen. Obama’s statements and support for restricting access to firearms,” Obama reportedly “sent ‘cease and desist letters’ to news outlets in the two states, ‘denouncing the ads,” “demanding their removal from the airwaves,’” and “…warning station managers that in order to stay in the Federal Communication commission’s good graces, they should not air the ads.”[iii]

Missouri Governor Matt Blunt weighed in, saying:

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights…”[iv]

Chick-Fil-A and a Look at America’s Future

Only 97 Days Remaining!

Chick-Fil-A and a Look at America’s Future

Seventy six percent of Americans are practicing Christians. Yet, Obama felt it necessary to cynically create an absurd “strawman” and flesh it out, by ridiculing the application of biblical prescriptions to modern government. On another occasion, he was quick to announce to the world that “America is no longer a Christian nation…at least, not just.” At the same time, he has called the Muslim call to prayers “…one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset,” credited Muslims with helping to shape America and stated that he considers it his “responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.” He gave NASA, as one of their highest priorities, the task of outreach to Muslims. When Korans were accidentally burned in Afghanistan after being used to pass extremist messages in the Parwan Detention Facility, our supposed Afghan allies killed 6 American soldiers in cold blood and wounded five others. Obama apologized to the Afghans.

Cumulatively – and there’s many more examples – this behavior says a great deal about Obama’s thoughts on religion. But, it also says something about his view of his own power and his ability to judge – even ridicule – the values of others. The idea that one of his closest political cohorts – Rahm Emanuel – would behave in a like manner, is not surprising. It is however, both reprehensible and a frightening reminder that sustaining our way of life and safeguarding our liberties is no longer solely an issue of opposing super powers, but increasingly one that involves the accountability of our own elected leaders.Whether it is Obama ridiculing religion, buying votes with a sudden support of illegal immigration or gay marriage, vowing to work around a duly elected Congress, apologizing to those killing our own soldiers, or calling on Latinos to “Punish our enemies;” whether it is a Secretary of Interior who circumvents court orders to impose a drilling moratorium; whether it is a city alderman threatening to withhold a business permit; a big city Mayor attempting to force women to breast feed or, another big city Mayor calling out the religious beliefs of a businessman and telling America that those are not the values of his City – all of these and so many more examples in recent days tell us that the America we enjoyed as children and have always considered invincible, is under assault from those who no longer consider themselves representatives of the people, or guardians of our freedom – but, who now see themselves as “Rulers” and members of a power elite. It is no less our duty as citizens to identify and vote these would be kings out of office, than it is the duty of our soldiers to face and defeat our military enemies.

Racial Code or Race Card – Reason #50

Only 121 Days Remaining!

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Hears Racial Code

Following are the words of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), ardent Obama supporter and a Democrat not afraid to play the race card when it buys ink or air time.  Here, she attacks GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich as a racist.

“Let me say that the code words are, as far as I’m concerned words that generate and signify race.   You recall, Martin, that comments made by someone other than the president when he was a candidate in 2008, caused him to make a significant speech on race to say “Race is a factor in the United States, but I work and will represent all people.” Here we have Newt Gingrich, taking the opposite road, if you will. It’s I will use race to divide.

“I will call the president the food stamp president, obviously not knowing that food stamps are utilized by our soldiers, utilized by Caucasians in a higher percentage than both African-Americans and Latinos. Food stamps are for people in need.  Food stamps are for children.

“But, these code words are dividing us – telling us that a janitor who makes $37,000 a year would be in a better position to give his job up so that the children of the poor in New York, I think he used the example, the school district predominantly Latino and African-American can pick up a broom and work.  So, we know that those children and children from other places as well, should have an opportunity to be an astronaut, mathematician, a scientist – and absolutely, we’re not against work.   These children want work. They’re fighting for summer jobs. But, that is a code word to, if you will, portray poor children and poor school districts that they have seen no one work legitimately; that they don’t have a work ethic and these janitors are overpaid unionized workers who don’t have family and not making $37,000 a year.

“I think Mr. Newt Gingrich should be ashamed of himself and we should not want to win at any cost. Let’s bring the country together. Let’s not destroy Mr. Obama. Let’s talk about helping the American people.”[i]

Of course, there is always more than one way to look at words, actions, and intentions.  The filter used by Congresswoman Jackson Lee is incorrect, an obstacle to lasting solutions and still another useless racial trigger.  She points out that “food stamps are…utilized by Caucasians in a higher percentage than both African-Americans and Latinos…” This is true on its face, but represents a very selective manipulation of statistics – one that serves nobody.  It would be more productive for Jackson Lee to base her words and actions on reality, rather than racial defensiveness.  The general population of the United States, according to the U.S. Census, is broken down in part, as follows:  White non Hispanic, 63.7%; Black, 12.6%; Latino, 16.3%.[ii]  In terms of reliance on Food Stamps however, a 2005 study revealed that among rural recipients, 53% were white non Hispanic and 27% black.  Among urban recipients, 34% were white non Hispanic and 35% black.[iii]  This means two things: First, as a percentage of food stamp recipients, whites comprise the majority of rural recipients and only one percent less than blacks as urban recipients.  In this respect, Jackson Lee is 100% correct.  Unfortunately, this would suggest the need to apportion the bulk of our dedicated financial and other resources at programs that would assist white food stamp recipients in becoming less reliant on government assistance – a very wasteful approach, when the same statistics are properly interpreted.

The second thing these statistics tell us then, is this:  As they relate to their percentage of representation in the overall population, whites are underrepresented as Food Stamp recipients, by nearly 11% (rural), or 30% (urban), while blacks – based on their participation in the overall population – are over represented as food stamp recipients by 214% and 278%, respectively.  Ignoring, or defensively manipulating these statistics for political correctness, or racial defensiveness does not help blacks out of this difficult problem.

Additionally, Rep. Jackson Lee ignores the fact that Gingrich’s own daughter worked as a janitor during her teens – making his comments very unlikely to have been racially motivated.  Nobody wins with this type of rhetoric – a style of choice for Democrats since Obama became President.

How Does Obama See America – Whites – Cops? – Reason #49

Only 122 Days Remaining!

Whites, Cops and Black Theology

While Obama has been very effective in politically distancing himself from Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the man – it is not so easy to distance his behavior and expressed beliefs from the teachings of Wright and of James H. Cone’s Black Liberation Theology.  Remember the statement attributed to Obama’s friend “Marcus” in his first book Dreams from My Father?

“They had no reason to stop me.  No reason ‘cept I was walking in a white neighborhood.  Made me spread-eagle against the car.  One of ‘em pulled out his piece.  I didn’t let ‘em scare me, though.  That’s what gets these storm troopers off, seeing fear in a black man.” [i]

Recall Obama’s view of the slave trade?

“…the moment white men, themselves spurred on by their own fears of inconsequence, had landed on Africa’s shores, bringing with them their guns and blind hunger, to drag away the conquered in chains.” [ii]

Here are the words of James H. Cone, on whose Black Liberation Theology, Jeremiah Wright based his Church teachings – teachings embraced by Obama for at least 16 years of his life:

“….blacks are beaten at will by policemen as a means of protecting the latter’s ego superiority as well as that of the larger white middle class.”[iii]

Rhetoric from Obama Campaign Hits New Low

July 2 turned out to be another big day for the Obama campaign – his surrogates demonstrating once again, the spirit of divisiveness that has been the hallmark of his presidency.

The first example came on the heels of the Supreme Court’s decision on the so-called Affordable Healthcare Act.  While the controversial government mandate survived the high court’s ruling, their ability to leverage Medicaid expansion by holding hostage other federal funds  to the states did not.  Accordingly, several states immediately telegraphed their intention not to expand Medicaid within their borders.  One of these states was Florida.  Florida Democratic Representative Debbie Wasserman-Shultz was quick to weigh in, giving her professional opinion of the decision by Governor Rick Scott.

“I have to tell you,” said Wasserman Schults, “ I think he’s acting like a SPOILED BRAT.”[1]

Not to be outdone, Obama campaign surrogate Bill Burton constructed a strawman during a television interview, in which voters on the sidelines:

“…look at Mitt Romney and say, ‘Yeah, but is this CLOWN really going to beat President Obama?”[2]

All in all, another proud day for the Democrats – and they have so much reason to be proud.  Here are just a few other examples of their equally inspiring judgments on fellow Americans:

“All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing [applause], uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the tea party.”[3]

‘Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics,’ Ackerman wrote, ‘Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.’”[4]

“the ‘tea party’ can go straight to hell,”[5]

“Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens…Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree.”[6]

President Obama, an organizer and agitator by experience and training, continues to illustrate how his strong example has set the tone for both his administration and his campaign.

Reason #44 – Obama and Rezko: A “Distraction!”

Only 130 Days Remaining!

Reason #44

Obama and Rezko – A “Distraction?”

Tony Rezko, now serving time on fraud, money laundering and Attempted Bribery charges,[i] was considered a friend of Obama for 17 years.  Rezko, his partner Daniel Mahru, their wives and businesses contributed more than $50,000 to Obama’s campaigns over the years and Rezko was responsible for bundling millions more, including $14 million in contributions raised by Obama’s U.S. Senate Campaign Finance Committee – a Committee to which Rezko had been appointed by Obama.[ii]

Rezko was also considered a good friend of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and was, according to author Elizabeth Brackett, “the key figure in the wide-ranging corruption that shattered the governor’s office.”[iii]

Although Obama knew Rezko was under criminal investigation at the time, he made sure Rezko was present when he toured his South side Chicago home for the first time, as a prospective buyer.  A few weeks earlier, Rezko had allegedly received a $3.5 million dollar loan from Nadhmi Auchi, a British-Iraqi billionaire convicted in a 2003 corruption case in France. [iv]

The property included a Georgian style home and an adjacent fenced lot that could not be accessed individually from the street.  Although the owner was apparently selling both the home and lot, Mr. Obama successfully negotiated a $300,000 reduction in the price of the home – from $1.95 million to $1.65 million – without purchasing the lot.

On that same day, Mrs. Rita Rezko – Tony Rezko’s wife – made a coincidental full price offer on the adjacent lot, paying $625,000.  Repeating – this lot could not be accessed individually from the street.  In January, 2006, the Obama’s purchased a ten foot section of the lot from Mrs. Rezko, for $104,500,[v]although an appraisal reflected the real value to be only $40,500.[vi]

Obama had first been offered a job by Rezmar – Tony Rezko’s corporation – after his selection as President of the Harvard Law Review.  He refused the offer, but later went to work for the Chicago law firm Davis, Miner Barnhill & Galland – the firm representing Rezmar – the firm that helped Rezmar obtain $43 million in government funding to rehab 15 of its 30 low income apartment buildings.[vii]  The first time Obama was asked about Rezko, he claimed they had just met.  Actually, they had known each other for 17 years.[viii]  This, as Obama likes to say, could represent a “Teachable Moment” – for American voters.

While working for Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland, Obama performed an unknown amount of legal work on Rezmar deals.  When questioned about the amount of Obama’s Rezmar work by the Sun-Times, Mr. Miner – a partner in the law firm said “We’ll put together a list of the cases he worked on involving Rezko/Rezmar in the next day or two.”[ix] That statement was  reportedly made on March 13, 2007.  According to the Sun-Time’s Tim Novak, the information had not been received as of April 23, 2007.  Obama’s state senate campaign staff, on the other hand, says he worked only about five hours on such cases over a six year period. But, rehab deals on half of Rezmar’s low income apartment buildings were made while Obama was with the firm. [x] Recall Hillary Clinton’s accusation during one of the debates of the 2008 Democratic Primary, that Obama had handled the legal work for a “Slumlord.”

In February, 1997 Rezmar got away with a $100 fine, after tenants in one building suffered without heat for five weeks beginning in December, 1996.  On January 14, 1997, During a time when Rezko and his partner reportedly couldn’t come up with the money to turn on the building’s heat, Obama received a campaign contribution of $1,000 from Rezmar. [xi]

Eleven of Rezmar’s 30 buildings turned out to be in Obama’s State Senate District.[xii]
